Is everyone ready for Mid Ohio?! Talk about another event with large fields and some intense competition. Many drivers from near and far are showing up and it’s not too late to join the fun.
GTS5 – Leading the charge in the GTS field is a pair of GTS5 Porsche Cup Cars, expect to see some fast laps from these guys at the pointy end of the grid.
GTS4 – This is going to be an awesome race – fast drivers, fast race cars and 8 current entries! It’s looking like a BMW vs. Porsche shootout too, as we have nationally competitive drivers in both platforms participating. Looking forward to the action and seeing which make ends up at the front this time.
GTS3 – This class is back on the map after a break at Autobahn! 3 entries so far, let’s see if we can round it out a bit further.
GTS2 – After a 12 car field at Autobahn, our biggest class is back in action for Mid Ohio with 11 entries. We expect plenty of close racing across the field!
Still on the fence? Hop on board as GTS2-5 are all proving to have some good competition and someone to race!
Autobahn last month brought out a record GTS2 field of 12 cars, larger than the 2016 East Coast Championships! Consequentially the Saturday podium did have the same two Zach’s as ECC Nats (plus a 3rd regional Zach for good measure.)
Some of the more impressive feats of the Saturday race were Zach Hillmann setting yet another blistering fast track record of 1:32.75, while Zach Arnold, starting from the back row, worked up to 2nd place and Abuomar ran a clean and consistent race to 3rd.
Sunday’s Race 1 would be shortened by FCY and finished by Hillmann in First, Perkowski in Second and Vytis Aranauskas in his S52 swapped E30 in 3rd (a gratifying finish considering Vytis blew the engine the prior Monday testing at Autobahn and swapped in a replacement, redyno’d and was ready to race Saturday!)
Finally, Sunday’s Race 2 was completed by Hillmann securing a final 1st place, sweeping the weekend, followed by Matas Nizamovas in 2nd who finally found his groove after some trouble in the prior races and rounded out with Colin Arnold putting their #55 E46 BMW back on the podium.
After the races at Autobahn, the top finishing GTS cars were pulled into impound for scrutineering. This time around we did restrictor checks, but for those of you with more advanced methods of tuning – please make sure your dyno declarations clearly state your configuration – including how to verify. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me.
Post Race Party
After the race on Saturday – GTS hosted a post race party with family and friends, thanks to VFC Motorsport for the space and accommodations and Revolution Brewing for hooking us up with the beer. There was grilling, snacks, “admiring” and “critiquing” of post race videos and hanging out with great company. This is what the GTS camaraderie is all about!
Stay tuned at Mid Ohio – we’ll be working up a get together for racers and friends alike.
See you at the track!
